TORONTO — The Toronto Stock Exchange and other major North American markets were lower Thursday morning.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 74.03 points at 14,428.96.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 101.74 points at 17,438.73, the Nasdaq index fell 66.67 points to 5,073.28, and the S&P 500 declined points to 2,086.45.
The loonie traded at 76.03 cents US, up 0.20 of a U.S. cent from Wednesday’s close.
On the commodity markets, the December gold contract rose $3.60 to US$1,089.20 an ounce, the September crude oil contract was down 72 cents at US$44.43 a barrel and the September contract for natural gas was up three cents at $2.83.
