Chandigarh: 02-08-15: The women in Punjab are not safe and there sharp rise in the crime against women in the last eight years of Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP rule. This was stated by S Deepinder Singh Randhawa, candidate for President Punjab Youth Congress, in press release today. The sharp rise in the incidents of Rape, eve teasing, Domestic violence, female foeticide, education of girls reflect the concern of the present government towards the women in Punjab. There has been number of incidents in which the involvement of senior leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal Badal have been found but under the pressure from the government these women victims have to suffer. Due to threats from these influential leaders many victims succumb to the pressure and the case is closed. The female to male birth ratio is the least in Punjab, still the unauthorized Pregnancy test centers are working under the nose of this government. The incidents of Moga, Amritsar, and many more which go unreported are glaring examples.
Giving his vision about the solution to this problem, S Deepinder Singh Randhawa said that the foremost important thing is that education is imparted to these girls so that they are aware of this world and its happenings. The Government has duty to give quality education to these girls free of cost. We have to put more efforts on women empowerment and providing social justice to the young girls and women folk in Punjab. The girls should also be given skilled training at centers so that they are able to get job and run their household. The girls and women should be given self-defense training free of cost by the Government at different training centers so that at least in case of any incident if eve teasing they give a befitting reply to the teaser. To bring in the birth ratio of female and male little closer, unauthorized pregnancy check centers should be given hardest and deadly punishment, parents of the girls should also be educated and made aware of this problem.
Deepinder said that the Punjab Youth Congress will run continuous campaign against the female foeticide and crime against women which we have been already doing also in the past, but now the campaign will be more focused and use of social media will be more. We will have more participation by the females in our organizational set up also. Already our Vice President Sh. Rahul Gandhi has been in favour of women empowerment and social justice to the women, he has been vocal about this and the UPA 1 and UPA 2 had initiated number of schemes for women empowerment.
