PUNJAB POLICE MUST BE ADEQUATELY EQUIPPED TO DEAL WITH EMERGENCIES: BAJWA

Amritsar/Gurdaspur, July 28: While lauding the police action in confronting the three deadly terroristsholed up inside the Dinanagar police station yesterday, the Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today stressed the need to equip the force with modern weaponry and other equipment to deal with such situations.

He said the police force  was short on safety equipment like bullet proof jackets and helmets but still they put up exemplary bravery. However, when proper equipment was available, the risk to the fighting force could be minimised.

Mr Bajwa visited Guru Nanak Dev Hospital Amritsar today where four injured had been admitted. He was accompanied by Sh. Rajiv Bhagat President DCC Amritsar Urban, Sh. Later Mr. Bajwa visited the Civil Hospital Gurdaspur where he offered his Condolences to the family members of Late SP(D) Baljit Singh whose body was kept at the Mortuary. He demanded that the son of the martyred SP must be absorbed in the police on compassionate ground against the rank of his father. Similar steps should also be taken to adjust family members of all the home guards who also attained martyrdom. Mr. Bajwa wa accompanied by Sh. Anil Vijj President DCC Pathankot, Sh. He said the bus driver and railway employee who averted major disasters must be suitably rewarded.

He also demanded assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to the civilians who were injured yesterday.
