Jalandhar, July 22
Enforcement Directorate officials today filed a challan against “Ice king” Ranjit Singh alias Raja Kandola, his wife Rajwant Kaur and his son Bally Singh in the special court for hearing cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Assistant director and inquiry officer in the case Niranjan Singh, Enforcement Officer Gurpal Singh and prosecutor Balram Shakti presented the challan against the trio.
The officers sought confiscation of three properties of Kandola, including a farmhouse in Samrala, a house in Banga and another house in Gurgaon.
The total registered value of the property is said to be over Rs 6 crore.
The designated court of District and Sessions Judge RS Atri took cognisance of the challan filed under Section 3 of the PMLA Act and gave August 24 as the next date of hearing.
The case dates back to June 2012 when Kandola had been booked for the supply of Ice, a stimulant drug, worth Rs 200 crore. His wife and son were arrested by the Jalandhar police at that time but he was arrested by a special cell of the Delhi Police two months later.
The seizure of a huge amount of synthetic drug in Punjab had then created a lot of sensation. After the Jalandhar Rural Police had cracked the case, the ED too started probing the use of ‘hawala’ money in the case.
If convicted in the ED case, the trio face 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
