Cairo: At least six Egyptian army personnel were killed today when a military aircraft crashed due to sudden technical error during a training exercise in southern Cairo.
The aircraft crashed in the Kom Oshim area of Fayoum governorate, about 100 kilometer es south of Cairo, during a training exercise, said military spokesperson, Brigadier General Mohamed Samir in a statement.
“During military training, a technical failure led to the crash of an aircraft carrying troops in Kom Aushim in Fayoum province… Killing six soldiers and injuring one,” the army said.
Defence Minister and army commander-in-chief Sedki Sobhi has ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the incident.
Further details about the accident, including the type of the aircraft, are still awaited.
