Patiala, July 17
The Consortium of Indian Farmers Association has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the Patiala trial court’s November 2014 decision in the fertiliser scam.
The trial court had acquitted sitting Congress MLA from Samrala Amrik Singh Dhillon, BJP former chief parliamentary secretary Raj Khurana, his wife and 38 others in the fertiliser scam of 1993-1995.
The accused had allegedly connived to usurp super phosphate (fertiliser) subsidies amounting to Rs 49.77 lakh through a Jalandhar-based firm. The double Bench recused itself from hearing the case on Tuesday and ordered that the case be put up before some other Bench.
Earlier in the Patiala court, the investigating agency could not establish that Raj Khurana was serving in the firm when the fraud took place. As per Khurana’s lawyers, “he had already resigned from his post” and further “no fake bill was found by the probe team”.
