Chandigarh, July 6 : The Shiromani Akali Dal strongly condemned the statement of former Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh issued after Bhadson rally today against Punjab Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal and said that such false, baseless and irresponsible statements reflect the utter frustration of the Congress leader.

In a statement issued from the party head office here today, the party Secretary and Spokesman and Punjab Education Minister Dr. Daljit singh Cheema said that before levelling such allegations of pursuing Khalistani agenda against S. Parkash Singh Badal, Capt Amrinder should remember his own past when he signed the historic ‘Amritsar Declartion’. He urged him to read this document once again and the things will become crystal clear to him that who supported the demand of Khalistan ?

Dr. Cheema further said that it is surprising that a leader like Amarinder Singh who resigned in 1984 protesting against attack on Sri Darbar Sahib and cashed sikh sentiments, is misrably trying to cover up the misdeeds of former Prime Miniser Rajiv Gandhi to regain the lost position of President of PPCC.

Coming down heavily on the former Chief Minister Dr. Cheema said that the tone and tenor of his speeches is an ample proof of the bankruptcy of the Congress party. Since they have no agenda against the SAD-BJP government to place before the people, they are resorting to cheap allegations and mud slugging. He said that the timing of the speeches of Capt. Amarinder Singh should also be read along with happenings in the other part of the country. When a new book on the role of Rajiv Gandhi in 1984 massacre has revealed that Sikhs were not protected on the orders of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and because of which the Sonia Gandhi family has against become the focus of critism, Capt. Amarinder has choosen this time to cast aspersions on Mr. Badal only to divert public attention.
