* Vows to expand base of development activities of board
Chandigarh, July 2: The newly appointed Director of the Punjab Khadi and Gram Udyog Board and Social Activist Mr. Rajwant Singh Mahla today assumed charge of his office in the presence of Inderjit Singh, Member Secretary of Khadi Board.
Giving details about the development activities of the board, Mr. Mehla said that the board has been instrumental in setting up of 244 units and provided loans worth Rs. 23 crore from banks and subsidy worth Rs. 574.29 lakh from Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). With this initiative, 1340 people have been provided direct and indirect employment, he said. The Member Secretary informed that the board would strive to set up 770 units in 2015-16 under KVIC scheme which would give livelihood to 1850 people besides getting them 32 crores worth loans from banks and subsidies worth Rs. 8 crore.
Mr. Rajwant Singh Mahla while thanking the Chief Minister, Punjab, said he would leave no stone unturned in expanding the base of development activities undertaken by the board.
On the occasion, Vice – Chairman of the board Geetesh Sharma, Mr. Maheshinder Singh, Mrs. Rajwinder Kaur Bhagike, Mr. Joginder Pal Jain (all MLAs), Chairman District Planning Board Moga Mr. Tirath Singh Mahla, State Secretary BJP Mr. Subhash Bhateja, Mr. Gurdev Singh and many other dignitaries were also present.
