BIRDEVINDER DEMANDS WHITE PAPER ON DRUG ISSUE

bir-devinder-singh1Patiala, June 27 : It’s a matter of great worry that the Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Parkash Singh Badal appears to be in a denial mood to admit the naked truth about the drug menace in Punjab. This kind of deceptive frame of mind is proving detrimental to the critical interests of the life and health of the youth of Punjab. As a matter of fact Punjab is one of the top States, which is hugely effected by the drug abuse. There is no denying the fact that in Punjab, all kind of noxious drugs are available in abundance, in each city
and town. Punjab continues to be a safe haven for drug peddlers. Although the Punjab police has done incredible job in arresting the ‘king pin’ of the multi-layered ‘Drug Trade’, Mr. Jagdish Singh Bhola and his accomplices, thereby exposing the strong nexuses between the drug peddlers and politicians of the ruling dispensation in Punjab, but this is not
enough. Much more is still required to be done to combat drug trade in Punjab, more effectively and more doggedly.

The enforcement Directorate of the Ministry of Finance, Govt. of india is also investigating in to the matter pertaining to Hawala transactions linked to Drug Trade in Punjab. Intriguingly the investigation by the DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) in to the matter is progressing notoriously slow, at snail’s pace. The alarming revelation made by ‘Drug Lord’ Jagdish Bhola, undoubtedly point to the terrible nature of the insidious drug menace in Punjab. If multidimensional layers of drug trade brazenly carried out in Punjab over the years, exceed the trade turnover more than 5000 Crores a year, than the State Chief Minister is not apparently expected to be a genius to comprehend the magnitude of the horrendous impact of the drug menace on the youth of Punjab.
