Chandigarh, Tightening the noose on habitual late comers and to check the practice of absenteeism, the Punjab government today made Chief Vigilance Officers (CVOs) accountable to ensure punctuality in their respective offices. CVOs failing to maintain punctuality would face departmental action.
Stating this here today an official spokesperson of the Vigilance department said that the state government is concerned about the lackadaisical approach of the government employees towards their official duty. He said that Mr. Sarvesh Kaushal, Chief Secretary has already issued instructions to all the Chief Vigilance Officers in this regard.
He said that Chief Vigilance Officers of each department has been instructed to check their offices at periodic end; if they find any chronic case of absenteeism they must immediately bring that case in the notice of competent authority to take disciplinary action against the erring habitual offenders. CVOs has also been delegated the powers to check the attendance of their respective office during the office hours too. “Notification in this regard has been issued”, he added.
He further said that it has come to the notice of the state government thought its various channels that despite the high end advisory and strictures issues to the employees, the practice of absenteeism is still going on unabated. In view of this the Vigilance Department has issued fresh instruction to all the Head of the Departments to ensure that the employees are attending the offices in time. state government has earnestly felt that the consistent absenteeism of the employees from the office is proving a big hurdle in extending the services to the public.
