New Delhi, June 24:  A trial court on Wednesday took cognizance of a complaint filed against Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani for allegedly misrepresenting facts about educational qualifications in her election affidavits.

The court has fixed August 28 for recording of pre-summoning evidence against her.
Metropolitan magistrate Akash Jain on June 1 had reserved the order on the plea after hearing arguments on the aspect of limitation and whether cognizance can be taken or not.

The complaint was filed by freelance writer A Khan, who said that there were several discrepancies in Irani’s affidavits filed before the EC.

It may be mentioned that former law minister in Arvind Kejriwal government Jatinder Singh Tomar is in judicial custody in fake degree case.
