* State received 10, 23,939 MT of urea against 7,97,000 MT last year
Chandigarh, June 23: The Punjab government today said that there were no shortage of urea fertilizer for the ongoing crop season and asked the farmers not to be worried in this regard as the state has arranged adequate quantity of urea to meet the demand of farmers.
The Minister in charge for agriculture Jathedar Tota Singh has reviewed the preparation of agricultural department and supply of Urea in a video conference with Central Government agencies along with higher officials of the department.
He said that last year during kharif season the consumption of fertilizer was recorded 7,97,000 MT but this year the state has received 10,23,939 MT of urea and an adequate stock of urea has already been supplied to cooperative society and private dealers across the state.
He said that due to constant efforts made by the Agriculture Department by making interventions at various levels with the Centre, the stocks have been increased this year , added Jathedar Tota Singh.
In the case of DAP the state has received 1,66,563 MT in 2015 against the 142000 MT in 2014.
He also informed said that the State Government has been assured by the Union Government that allocation of fertilizers for current month would be supplied and further requirement would be made as per the state’s need during the remaining period of Kharif season. He said farmers should not pay heed to any kind of rumors and not stock up the fertilizer beyond requirement as adequate stocks are available.
