PUNJAB CONGRESS LAUNCHES MASS MOBILISATION CAMPAIGN FROM RESERVE CONSTITUENCIES

Bajwa-700x467Sri Hargobindpur/Gurdaspur, June 2: The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today started the mass contact campaign from Sri Hargobindpur in Gurdaspur district to mobilise the people in general and the dalits in particular against the betrayal by the Narendra Modi government at the centre and anti-people policies of the Parkash Singh Badal government in the state.

Mr Bajwa said the focus would be on atrocities against the dalits and in this context he cited the molestation and death of a young girl who was pushed down a speeding Orbit bus, arrest of students in Faridkot while protesting against this incident and suicides by dalits. He demanded that instead of giving plots to the dalits in the rural areas, housing societies should be set up to allot them flats.

The people would be made aware about the anti-people and anti-dalit policies of the Modi government which had curtailed allocations of social welfare schemes by 30 per cent. In Punjab, people were not getting old age and other pensions and assistance under shagun schemes for months.

Under this mass contact programme, all 34 reserve constituencies would be covered by September 28 with two constituencies each every week. Two programmes would be organised in each constituency. In the first programme, Mr Bajwa would interact with the dalits and in the second programme, he would have dialogue with every section in the open session under the tree.

The feedback from these mass contact programmes would be communicated to the party high command so that the main issues concerning the people could be included in the party manifesto.

The second phase of this campaign would start from October 2, the Gandhi Jayanti, from Pathankot in the form of padyatra which would be in six phases. Mr Bajwa would cover 175 kms in each phase with 15 km walk every day. This phase would continue till March end. The 5th and 6th phase would be along the GT road beginning from Shambhu to culminate at Amritsar.

He called upon Mr Badal to get assurance from Mr Modi that the centre continue to procure food grains and extend categoric assurance about paddy before his visit to Anandpur Sahib on June 19 to participate in 350th anniversary of the city.

He said the centre must first tell the farmers in the country as to what should they cultivate so that they did not have to face the marketing problem.

He demanded that Badal must reduce cess on petrol and diesel to bring the rates at par with Chandigarh.
