SUKHDEV SINGH DHINDSA REELECTED AS PRESIDENT PUNJAB OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION

* Raja KS Sidhu and R.S. Gill would be General Secretary and Vice President of POA

Mohali, May 30: Member Rajya Sabha Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa today re-elected as President Punjab Olympic Association likewise Raja KS Sidhu and R.S. Gill have been unanimously elected as General Secretary and Vice President of POA.

Mr. Dhindsa and others were elected unanimously during Annual General Body Meeting and election of office bearers of POA at Punjab Olympic Bhawan, Mohail. They have been elected for the next four years.

In the list of other office bearers Mr. Brahm Mohinda, MLA, Mr. Sikander Singh Maluka, Rural Development Minister, Punjab, Mr. Kartar Singh Padma Shree and Arjuna Awardee, Mr. Rajan Gupta, IPS and Mr. N.S. Kalsi, IAS have been elected as Vice Presidents while Mr. KVS Sidhu has been elected as Additional Secretary whereas Mr. Jagdish Mittal, IPS, Mr. K.S. Kang, IAS, Mr. Rajinder Kalsi and Apinder Grewal would be Joint Secretaries. Mr. P.S. Virk elected Treasurer of POA.

The names include in executive members are Punjab Finance Minister Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa, Arjuna Awardee Mr. Tara Singh, Arjuna Awardee Mr. Jaipal Singh, Mr. Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu, Mr. Teja Singh Dhaliwal, Mr. Upjeet Singh Brar, Mr. Satbir Singh Atwal, Mr. Dev Singh Dhaliwal, Mr. Prabjeev Singh, Mr. Balraj Sharma, Mr. Raj Kumar and Col. Sarpartap Singh.

Padma Shree, Arjuna Awardee and MLA Mr. Pargat Singh would be Chairman Coaching and Training Committee, Mr. R.S. Gill DGP {Retd} elected as Chairman Hall of Fame Committee and Mr. Navdeep Singh Gill, would look after the responsibility of Media and Publicity Committee as Coordinator.

STATE GAMES TO BE RESUMED-DHINDSA

Re elected President of Punjab Olympic Association Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa today announced that resuming state games would be the foremost task of Association. He said they will form a committee in this regard soon so that in association with Punjab Institute of Sports necessary steps could be taken in coming time. He also said that the annual fund of Rs. 70 crore earmarked for Sports through Cess should be allocated to associations.

General Secretary Raja KS Sidhu announced that ‘Hall of Fame’ highlighting achievements of Punjab in Sports to be constructed at Punjab Olympic Bhawan, which would depict kits, sports goods, medals and portraits of World Fame Sports Icon of Punjab. He said in first phase copper statue of Olympian Balbir Singh Senior, Flying Sikh Milkha Singh and Olympic Champion Abhinav Bindra would be installed.

On this occasion Mr. Dhindsa also handed over a cheque of Rs One Lakh to Junior World Boxing Champion Mandeep Kaur Sandhu, who recently brought laurels for nation as well as state.
