Pakistan reappoint Shahid Afridi as Twenty20 captain

All-rounder Shahid Afridi has been reappointed as Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain – three years after he was sacked from the role.
Afridi, 34, led Pakistan to the semi-finals of the World Twenty20 in 2010.
He was removed from the post in 2011 after falling out with then coach Waqar Younis and the country’s cricket board.
He will lead the team with immediate effect, replacing Mohammad Hafeez who resigned in April following the team’s exit from the World T20 in Bangladesh.

Former fast bowler Waqar remains the country’s head coach, but Afridi said: “Whatever happened in the past is over and now I have started a new beginning.
“I will develop a fearless approach in the players and eradicate the fear of loss as a captain. This format is not for the chicken-hearted player.”
Afridi has been appointed as captain until the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 in India.
Meanwhile, batsman Misbah-ul-Haq will captain Pakistan at next year’s World Cup. Misbah, 40, retains his role as Pakistan’s Test and one-day international captain.
The World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand between 14 February and 29 March next year.
