CHANDIGARH, May 13: Senior Congress leader and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh today asked the Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia to make the farmers ambassadors for promoting and producing solar energy in the state.
Referring to Majithia’s statement saying the students will be made the energy ambassadors, Rana reiterated his proposal that farmers should be encouraged to produce solar energy. He said, the farmers can not only produce solar energy for their own consumption, but they can supply the extra energy they generate to the PSPCL and earn good amount of money.
The senior Congress leader pointed out, the government was already encouraging private entrepreneurs to produce solar energy and it could extend the benefits to the farmers as well. “This way we can make an entrepreneur out of every farmer and he will not be dependent on anyone”, he remarked.
Rana has consistently been maintaining that the farmers can easily be involved in the generation of solar energy and the existing PSPCL infrastructure, by which farmers are supplied electricity, could be used for the same.
He has also sought time from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to present his plan which, he is confident, can make every farmer an energy producer in the country.
He said, while it is a good idea to make the students as energy ambassadors to save the electricity, it would be better if farmers are involved in solar energy generation, which is quite possible and practicable.
