BJP world’s largest political party: Shah

New Delhi, With its membership crossing the 10-crore mark, party president Amit Shah today officially announced the BJP as the world’s largest political party. “I feel pride in saying the BJP with around 10.5 crore members has become the largest party in the world. We are happy about it,” he said.
The membership is expected to reach 10.5 crore at midnight today when the party halts the ambitious membership drive which started on November 1. With around 8.6 crore members, so far the Communist Party of China is believed to be the largest political party.
Starting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the saffron party will now launch a “verification drive” of all new members. During this 90-day mass contact programme, the party will touch base with the new members, which Shah said was important to conduct their background check and authenticity.
