Chandigarh, Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Punjab Sunil Jakhar today served ultimatum on Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to release last year’s compensation to the farmers for crop damage failing which he would stage dharna in front of his residence.
Releasing documents at a news conference here, Jakhar said the centre had released Rs 101.61 crore on July 25, 2014 and the same amount onFebruary 10 last. The state government had contributed Rs 67 crore to this amount. However, the same was yet to be released to the farmers.
He said Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had failed to get the funds released for his Jalalabad constituency. He pointed out that the amount of Rs 32 crore for Fazilka and Rs 51 crore for Muktsar, the home district of Badal, was yet to be released.
He said he would stage dharna after consulting members of the Congress Legislature Party.
He alleged that Punjab had been meted out step motherly treatment by the Narendra Modi government and Badal dare not raise the issues concerning the state with the Prime Minister.
