Chandigarh, Shiromani Akali Dal president and Deputy Chief Minister Punjab Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal today termed the landslide victory of the SAD-BJP alliance in the Dhuri by-poll as a verdict in the favour of the pro-people development policies of the Punjab government and a complete rejection of negative campaign being run by the Congress party.
Expressing gratitude to the people for reposing their faith and confidence in the policies and programmes of the alliance government, Mr. Badal said the victory of SAD candidate Gobind Singh Longowal was also a precursor to things to come. ” The by poll result has set the trend for the 2017 assembly elections in which the Congress will now face complete elimination”, he added.
Mr. Badal also thanked all the workers, leaders, office bearers and rank and file of SAD-BJP for working day and night to ensure the thumping victory. He also thanked the people for reposing faith in the ethos of democratic values by exercising their franchise freely.
Describing the Dhuri by-poll result as a verdict in favour of the pro-people, transparent and effective governance of the SAD –BJP government led by Mr. Parkash Singh Badal, the SAD president said the SAD-BJP alliance, which was a votary of communal harmony, peace and development, had already created a new record in the state polity by staging come back to power for second consecutive term in the 2012 assembly polls. He said the alliance had retained its popularity among the people by winning successive by polls in Dasuya, Moga, Talwandi Sabo and now in Dhuri.
Assuring that the SAD-BJP alliance would continue to rise to the aspirations of the people, Mr. Badal said the Congress after facing severe leadership crisis at national and state level had limited itself to false and negative propaganda. “People of the nation and Punjab have repeatedly taught lessons to the Congress party but it had not learned anything from repeated failures. After 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections one will find Punjab Congress in history pages only”, he added.
Mr. Badal said AAP had relied on sensationalism and falsities thus after being completely rejected by the people both in the Talwandi Sabo and Patiala assembly constituency the party did not dare to contest the Dhuri by-poll.
Reiterating the commitment of SAD-BJP alliance, Mr Badal said that the alliance government would ensure the overall development of the state in the coming year so that the state excelled the country in every field. He said the SAD-BJP alliance always kept its promises and the repeated mandate given by the people of the state in past elections was the outcome of the positive election campaigns run by the alliance. Mr. Badal said the people once again rejected the negative poll campaign of the Congress party and discarded its communal, divisive and anti-development card.
