Chandigarh, Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Mr. V.K. Singh disclosed that the counting of votes for Dhuri By poll was completed after 12 rounds of counting. 14 Counting tables were set up for counting purposes in the hall. The Shiromani Akali Dal Candidate Sr. Gobind Singh Longowal has been declared elected in this Dhuri by-Poll.
Giving further details he said that out of total 110951 votes polled and counted the winning SAD Candidate got 67596 votes while the Indian National Congress candidate Sr Simar Pratap Singh got 30095 votes. The winning margin was recorded as 37501. SAD Amritsar Candidate Sr Surjit Singh Kalabula secured 7554 votes and came third. None of the Above (NOTA) got 1071 votes.
Giving party wise breakup he said that Communist Party of India candidate Sukhdev Ram Sharma, got 1933(4th highest), Manjit Kaur of Jai Jawan Jai Kisan got 203, while all Independents Sarabjit Singh got 261, Gurpreet Singh 134, Gurmeet Singh 397, Jora Singh174, Bikram Kumar 835, Ranjit Singh Bhasin 535 and Rattan Lal got 163.
Besides expressing his thanks to the voters of Dhuri constituency for having enthusiastically participated in the electoral process, Mr. V.K.Singh also thanked the Sangrur Administration, officers & staff on election duty and police & para military forces for fair and peaceful conduct of the electoral process. He also thanked the political parties for their unstinting support and cooperation during the Dhuri by-poll.
The CEO also said that with the declaration of result the Model Code of conduct has also been lifted.
