Many councillors keen to join BJP, says ex-DGP

Moga,
Expressing concern over the “instability” prevailing in the newly elected Moga Municipal Corporation, former Punjab DGP and BJP leader Paramdip Singh Gill has claimed several rebel Akali and Independent councillors were willing to join the saffron party.
Gill claimed a majority of the councillors were not in favour of MLA Joginder Pal Jain’s son Akshit Jain for the Mayor’s post. He said 20 councillors had met him over the past few days.
“The councillors are looking towards the BJP for bringing stability in the local body. So far, the Mayor has failed to convene a meeting as a large number of councillors are against him,” he said.
Two Akali groups led by Agriculture Minister Tota Singh and local MLA Joginder Pal Jain were at loggerheads over the election of Akshit as the Mayor. The issue of the Mayor’s election is also pending before full bench of the High Court.
