Dhuri (Sangrur), All 166 polling booths (103 polling locations) have been declared sensitive for the Dhuri Assembly by-election. Sources said out of 166 polling booths, 91 have been declared hypersensitive and the remaining 75 sensitive. These polling booths are located in 75 villages and Dhuri town. The total number of voters in the constituency is 1,50,888 (79,772 male and 71,116 female).
The hypersensitive polling booths are located in villages, including Issapur, Roorgarh, Katron, Changali, Ghanauri Kalan, Bamal, Babanpur, Mehmoodpur, Bhasour, Dhadhogal, Bardwal, Jahangir, Bugra, Mullowal, Rangian, Kanjhla, Ladda, Benra, Manwala, Meemsa, Bhullarheri and Bhalwan. Ten polling locations (with 31 polling booths) in Dhuri town have also been declared hypersensitive.
Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mandip Sidhu said they were yet to work out the number of police personnel that are to be deployed. However, paramilitary forces would be stationed at all 103 polling locations, he said.
Sources in the police department said 12 patrolling parties would keep a close vigil in the entire area to avoid any untoward incident during the election.
To conduct the by-election in a free and fair manner, the administration has formed four static surveillance teams for the city police station, sadar police station, Dhilwan police post and Ranike police post. These teams will lay nakas.
Besides, three video surveillance teams have also been arranged to cover rallies. Four flying squads, headed by executive magistrates, will check if the model code of conduct has been violated.
