Jalandhar,
A day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab, Congress Legislature Party Leader Sunil Jakhar today said since all cities and towns in Punjab were in dire straits, priority should be to improve the existing infrastructure and the smart city project could follow.
“The condition of roads is extremely bad. Many areas are still devoid of sewerage. There is an immediate need to release funds, but the government has been delaying it to play petty politics over it,” he said. “I had got several projects approved. I made 20 rounds to get various hurdles cleared, but the civic bodies are yet to get the amount,” he said.
He said such issues were not getting heard in the Assembly as even the Speaker was playing a “partisan” role. “It has been three sessions since I raked the issue of funds for SC/BC students, but my question is being put off each time. There is no reply on several issues as I am told that either the minister concerned or the nodal officer are not available,” he said.
