Punjab police beef up security along J&K border

Pathankot, Following a terror attack in Rajbagh village in Kathua district on Friday, the Punjab border along Jammu and Kashmir was sealed till the security forces fighting the terrorists confirmed that all of them were eliminated.

The Punjab police beefed up security at Madhopur and Kathlore and were not allowing the movement of traffic across the border for nearly five hours till 12 noon, leading to long queues of stranded vehicles on both sides and causing great inconvenience to the commuters.

Though vehicles were being diverted through Basholi and Bilawar, trains were stopped at Kathua and Pathankot till a clearance from the security forces was received.

Passengers were stuck at Pathankot bus stand and railway station, while many missed their flights from Jammu to Srinagar.

“I had to take a flight from Jammu at 10.30am, but missed it, as the train in which I was travelling to Jammu was not allowed to move beyond Kathua,” claimed Aijaj Ahmed from Sopore, who had come here to attend a meeting of his company.

Chuni Lal, a Kathua resident, who had come to Pathankot, claimed that he was not allowed to cross the Punjab border for two hours at Madhopur and when the traffic was released, he got stuck in the jam for hours.

Rajesh Kumar, a passenger stranded at Pathankot railway station, said he had to attend an urgent meeting at Jammu, which he missed.

Meanwhile, Pathankot senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rakesh Kaushal said police were only taking a precautionary measure as terrorists could be anywhere.
