Chandigarh, Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today hailed the aggressive pursuit of the farmers’ cause by the Congress president Ms Sonia Gandhi saying it has not only galvanised the entire opposition against subverting the farmers’ interests by the NDA government, but has also imbibed fresh life into the rank and file of the Congress party across the country.
In a statement issued here today, Capt Amarinder observed that Ms Gandhi’s tomorrow’s visit to various places in Haryana to meet the rain-hit farmers there has also brought the issue of losses caused to the farming community into the limelight. “This was the need of the hour as the BJP led NDA government had started taking things for granted in absence of any visible resistance”, he remarked.
The former Chief Minister maintained that Ms Gandhi, by taking up the cause of farmers on the issue of Land Acquisition Act had proved that she stood by what she has preached and practised. “Not only was she the architect of the farmer friendly Land Acquisition Act which was introduced by the UPA government, she has also insisted that she will not let its dilution at any cost even though her party was not in power”, he pointed out.
The senior Congress leader said that the entire rank and file of the Congress party across the country was looking forward to Ms Gandhi’s active leadership as she alone carried the charisma in bringing Congress back to power. “She proved it in 2004 when she led the party to victory out of oblivion and she will repeat this feat once again”, he added.
Capt Amarinder hoped that like Haryana, Ms Gandhi should be visiting other states also to mobilise the party workers who respect and admire her and easily identify with her as their leader.
