As Akalis fight, Faridkot MC chief poll put off

Faridkot,The power struggle between two groups of Akalis in Faridkot has led to the postponing of election of Municipal Committee (MC) president indefinitely. The development has further created problems in the administration. All 25 newly elected municipal councillors were sworn in yesterday, following which the SDM relinquished the charge of the MC administrator. Now, in absence of the MC president and administrator, all development works are struck in the political logjam. The district administration today wrote the Local Bodies Department to give single signature powers to the Executive Officer (EO) of the MC so that routine works are not affected.Of 25 seats, the SAD and the BJP won eight and four seats, respectively. Two groups of the Akali Dal are trying to outdo each other to elect their candidate as the president and vice-president. Nine elected councillors are Independents and four belong to the Congress.Rachhpal Singh, EO, said since he had no financial power, the routine work of the MC would be affected.Deep Malhotra, MLA, Faridkot, said the president would be elected in the coming days and all differences within the party would be resolved.
