Khosa Kotla (Moga), The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today said that it will not contest the Dhuri byelection. The seat fell vacant after the resignation of Congress MLA Arvind Khanna.Bhagwant Mann and Prof Sadhu Singh, MPs from Sangrur and Faridkot, addressed rallies at Badhni Kalan town and Khosa Kotla village in Moga district .
They said that AAP was busy raising its organisational structure in Punjab at the grassroots level. This was a must for contesting the 2017 Assembly elections. “At this point of time, we are not prepared for the Dhuri byelection,” they said.Alleging that the SAD had earlier forced a byelection in Moga, then in Talwandi Sabo and now in Dhuri, they said defections and byelections were a burden on the people. “This is ethically wrong,” Bhagwant said. The AAP leaders said the SAD-BJP alliance would not last for long in view of the differences between the leaders of the two parties. “The people of Punjab are looking for an alternative and we are certain to form the government in Punjab in 2017”, the MPs claimed.Sources in AAP said that alarmed at the infighting at the national level, the party’s top leadership in Punjab had revised their decision to contest the Dhuri byelection.
