Maluka aide president in Amarinder’s village

Mehraj, Harinder Singh Hinda (30), close associate of minister Sikander Singh Maluka, was today elected president of the Mehraj nagar council. Gurchet Singh and Balbir Singh have been elected senior vice-president and vice-president.
Mehraj is the native place of former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and it’s probably for the first time that the Congress has lost here. Capt Amarinder’s aide Gurpreet Kangar had won as Independent in 2002 and on the Congress ticket in 2007. The party boycotted the election this time.
The SAD won 10 of the 13 seats while the remaining three were bagged by Independents, mostly Akali rebels. Five among the SAD winners were elected unopposed.
Alleging hooliganism by the Akalis, former Congress MLA Gurpreet Kangar, party in charge for the area, had announced boycott of the elections.
