Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, Mr. Anil Joshi, Local Bodies Minister, Punjab today said that the presidents of the 122 Municipal Councils/ Nagar Panchayats would be elected till March 17. In a press communiqué he said that after the election of the Presidents, the first meeting of these elected Local Bodies would be convened wherein President and other office Bearer would be administered oath to the office.
Mr. Joshi said that written instructions to all the Deputy Commissioners have been issued and they have been directed to make all necessary arrangements for the election of Presidents of these Local Bodies till March 17. They have also been directed to ensure that the names of the elected members were published in the Government Gazette. He said that the MLA concerned would be eligible to take part in the election process and cast his/her vote.
Mr Joshi further said that in the instructions issued by the department, it would be mandatory to call first meeting of the Elected Representative by serving 48 hours notice to all elected members with intimation to the concerned MLA. He said that in the first meeting all the elected representative took oath. Afterwards, including MLA concerned they would elect the President, Senior vice President, Vice President and other members. It has also been instructed to send the details of the elected president to the Director of the Local Bodies for Publication in Government Gazette. Similarly the convener of the meeting would send the proceeding and minutes of the meeting.
