Amritsar, CPI’s national secretary Shameem Faizal today said the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a pro-corporate government. It was the Ordinance route to unleash the policies that would help the corporate sector and hit the common man hard.
He said this while talking to The Tribune on the sidelines of the party’s two-day state conference that began here today. He stressed on uniting all Left parties in order to convince the people of the country that the Left would give them a third alternative that could lead them on to the path of development.
“All Left parties should unite and emerge as a third alternative for the people. The parties should also make an effort to connect with the public,” he said. The Left parties should expand their mass base, he said.
He said it took just over two months to expose the false claims and true picture of the Modi government that followed right wing and neo-liberalism policies, besides having communalistic approach. It had also proved its pro-rich approach and the recent Land Acquisition Bill was a perfect example of that, he added.
Dr Joginder Dyal, member of the party’s national executive, also echoed similar sentiments. The CPI had tried to bring all Left parties in Punjab on a common platform and it had succeeded in that to some extent, he claimed.
He said Modi government was against Punjab and had not provided any major relief to the border state so far. He said the state required an economic package on the lines of several other states. He said Punjab’s economy was deteriorating due to debt. The number of industrial units was dwindling, leading to increase in unemployment and crime, he said.
Rampant drug abuse was another major worry for the state and a large number of youth were hooked on to drugs. He said the party was opposed to the Land Acquisition Bill and disintegration of Food Corporation.
