Bitter cold breaks another single-day temperature record in Toronto

Toronto, For the second consecutive day, the bitter cold weather broke a record in the city of Toronto.

The mercury hit -20.4 C at Pearson early this morning, surpassing the previous single-day temperature record of -19.4 C, which was set on Feb. 24, 1993.

Despite the unrelenting cold, Environment Canada cancelled an extreme cold weather warning today that was issued earlier this weekend. The extreme cold weather alert issued by the city’s chief medical officer of health remains in effect.

The wind chill made it feel closer to -26 this morning and periods of light snow are expected late this afternoon.

There doesn’t appear to be any relief coming on Wednesday. The national weather agency is calling for a high of -11 C and wind chill values that will make it feel like -27.

As February comes to a close, March appears to be a bit more promising.

Environment Canada is calling for a high of -2 C on Sunday and a high of 0 C on Monday.
