Municipal council/Nagar panchyat elections concluded peacefully with 78.60% voting

Chandigarh, Inclement weather conditions in Punjab did not deter the voters to come out of their households to exercise their franchise to elect 122 Municipal Councils/ Nagar Panchyats. The election process today concluded on peaceful note with 78.60% polling barring stray incidents at some booths of Samana and Ferozpur.

As per the reports the overall percentage of votes is 78.60.% .

Disclosing this here today Mr. SS Brar, State Election Commissioner said “The Election was today by and large peaceful expect some booths at Samana and Ferozpur, re-polling would be conducted at these 5 booths”

Mr. Brar gave credit to people of Punjab and Administration Machinery for ensuring the fair, impartial and peaceful election process. He expressed hope that the next phase of polling for the 121 unicipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats and by-election of 1 ward of Bariwala would also go on peacefully. “This election is the indicator of peoples’ faith in the democratic values of the constitution” he added.
