Punjab ready for Municipal council, Nagar panchayat polling

* Arrangement completed, voting from 8 to 5 PM
* Total 7006 candidates are in fray, 160 candidates have been elected unopposed

Chandigarh, Nearly 28.50 lakh voters would cast their votes to elect the members of 122 Municipal Councils/ Nagar Panchayats on February 25. By election of one ward ofNagar Panchayat Bariwala would also take place tomorrow. Immediately after the completion of polling, the counting of votes would start on the same polling booth. All arrangement for the polling has been completed.

Disclosing this here today Mr. Shivinder Singh Brar, State Election Commissionersaid that for the election in 2062 wards of Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayat total 1486 polling stations & 3170 polling booths have been set up. He said that in these election 7006 candidates are in fray whereas 160 candidates have already been elected unopposed. He said approximately 28 lakh 50 thousand voters would use their electoral franchise in these election.

Mr. Brar said that State Election Commission, District and Local Administraion have completed all the arrangements for the smooth conduction of election. He said that in this election 16717 employees (apart from reserved force) have been deployed on election duty. He said that the election staff has already reached at their respective booth with the election material. “for security purpose 15689 police personnel have been deployed on election duty” he added. He said that 163 polling booths have been declared hyper sensitive whereas 940 polling booths have been put in sensitive category.
