Toronto, Former mayoral candidate and Member of Parliament Olivia Chow has been appointed as a visiting professor at Ryerson University.
The school made the announcement on Monday morning, noting that Chow will focus on student mentorship and help create a program on community engagement and democratic participation while at Ryerson.
The appointment is for a three-year term.
“I am excited about joining a city-building university like Ryerson,” Chow said in a press release. “The opportunity to work with creative, dedicated, urban-oriented young people on the important challenges facing our next generation, our city and our society, is both humbling and thrilling.”
Chow resigned from Parliament last March to run for mayor, but ended up finishing third in the race.
In a statement, Faculty of Arts Dean Jean-Paul Boudreau said Chow will bring “impressive expertise and dynamism to youth leadership development” to Ryerson and will “inspire students to dream big.”
