Punjab MC elections concluded on a peaceful note with 69.01% polling

Chandigarh,The elections conducted for 6 Municipal Corporations and by-elections of 3 wards of 2 Municipal Corporations today concluded on peaceful note. As per the reports the overall percentage of votes is 69.01% for 6 Municipal Corporations and 54.54 % for 3 wards of 2 Municipal Corporations.
Disclosing this here today Mr. SS Brar, State Election Commissioner said “There was no report of any untoward incident from any polling booths”
While divulging the poll percentage in different municipal corporations Mr. S.S. Brar said that at SAS Nagar Mohali 60.48% votes were polled, similarly at Bathinda 67%, Hoshiarpur 67.29%, Moga 72.33%, Pathankot 74% and at Phagwara the final poll percentage was recorded as 73%. He said that the total average poll percentage for the 6 municipal corporations was remained 69 .01%.
He further said that for the by-election of 2 wards in Patiala the poll percentage was recorded as 46% whereas the 1 ward of Jalandhar poll percentage was recorded at 63.08 %.
Mr. Brar gave credit to people of Punjab and Administration Machinery for ensuring the fair, impartial and peaceful election process. He expressed hope that the next phase of polling for the 122 Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats and by-election of 1 ward of Bariwala would also go on peacefully. “This election is the indicator of peoples’ faith in the democratic values of the constitution” he added.
