State Election Commission extends time for civic polls by one hour in Punjab

*  Voters could now cast vote from 8 Am to 5 Pm instead of 4 PM

Chandigarh,The State Election Commission (SEC) has increased the polling hours by one hour. Now the polling hours would be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. instead of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesman of the SEC said the amendment in the timing of polling for the 6 Municipal Corporations & by-election of 3 wards of 2 Municipal Corporations Patiala & Jalandhar and 122 Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats elections & by-election of 1 ward of Nagar Panchayat Bariwala has been made to enable the voters to cast their votes easily. He said that many political parties and independent candidates were also demanding to increase the polling hours. He said that considering the demands from all these quarters the SEC has increased the polling hour by one hour. He said that the voters who enter into the gate of polling station till 5 p.m. would be allowed to cast vote whatever time it may take.

Yesterday Punjab Bjp chief Kamal Sharma also urged the state election commission to extend time for voting in municipal corporations and councils polls, scheduled on February 22 and 25, so that those in jobs can get the chance to exercise their franchise.
