Chandigarh, Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Rajinder Kaur Bhattat asserted that Parkash Singh Badal headed government has been indulging in reckless wasteful expenditure leading to crippling of financial condition of state and  as well as is also taking its toll on modernization of state police.
She said that due to wasteful expenditure by Badal government, central government has stalled the releasing of grant of Rs. 100 crore for modernization of state police. She said that centre’s seeking of physical inspection report regarding funds meant for modernization of state police raises serious question about present regime’s reckless spending and diversion of centre funds.

She said that the utilization certificate submitted by state police has invited strong objections from centre. Not only this,  she said that state finance department showing zero utilization of the central grant by police is a matter of overriding concern adding that state government should clarify where the money has gone or has been diverted into some other sector.

She said there is a pressing need for modernization of state police keeping in view security needs of the state. Bhattal said that the expansion of state’s premier police training academy at Phillaur has been adversely impacted for want of funds. Similarly, she said that construction of buildings for modern training at both the Special Security Group (SSG) and Intelligence centre (ITNT) near Banur had been abruptly stopped due to shortage of funds.

Senior Congress leader said that state deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal had  made great noises some time back to modernize the state police including sanctioning of Rs 100 crore for the same and equipping all highways security cameras. She said that junior Badal has tendency to speak loud to score brownie points in order to push his own vested political interests. However, she said that no compromise should be made pertaining to modernization of state police emphasizing that security of people of state should be given added priority.

She said that Badal government has become government of false promises as it has failed to deliver on the ground due to which people of state have lost trust in the present regime. She said that state administration seems to have become inert and ineffective to tackle the problems faced by common man in the state.
