Chandigarh, The Punjab government today issued instructions to all Deputy Commissioners to declare all polling booths created for the purpose of Local Bodies elections as ‘no smoking zones’ and prominently put a signage at prominent places to warn the public regarding this. The orders have been issued for upcoming municipal corporation elections from 22nd Feb. to 25th Feb 2015
A spokesman of Punjab Government today said that Punjab Government has already declared 20 districts as under tobacco control act 2003 and all public places have been declared ‘no smoking zones’ by the Punjab Government. He said that it was imperative for Deputy Commissioners to issue instructions to depute nodal officers to challan any offender found smoking in and around polling booths and fine him Rs. 200.
All Deputy Commissioners have also been instructed to put up boards in the polling booths indicating the name and phone number of nodal officer where normal public could register their complaints regarding any offender.
