Sukhbir calls to use Lent season for brotherhood, communal concord and social unity

* Also allows prisoners of Christian community to be part of this holy exercise

Chandigarh,  President Shiromani Akali Dal and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister S. Sukhbir Singh Badal today called Christian community to use Lent prayer and fasting days for the sake of brotherhood, social unity by eliminating the menace of indifference. On the request of high level delegation of Christian community S. Badal also gave nod to depute Priests for the facilitation of Christian believers during holy days, who were undergoing imprisonments in Punjab jails.

While listening to the issues of Christian community here today, Deputy CM said pious Lent prayer and fasting days for 40 days long was observed by revered Lord Jesus Christ for the welfare of humanity and free them from burdens of sins. He said we should follow the teachings of Lord Jesus Christ to build a healthy and strong society.

Fulfilling the demand of delegation to allow priests to visit jails where fellow Christian believers need their assistance to pay their obeisance by observing Lent prayers and fast rituals for 40 days, S. Badal said necessary directions to Jail authorities have been given to facilitate Christian inmates for holy prayer and fast according during the requested time. He said this pious ritual would also help the inmates to come out of impression of social menaces by indulging them in prayers and fasts.

Meanwhile, Albert Dua, member Punjab State Minority Commission said the Christian fraternity felt honour with sanctioning of permission to observe holy Lent season to Christian prisoners. He said it would also extend a chance to prisoners to be a part of this life changing movement. He said the sole motive of Lord Jesus Christ to observe 40 days fast was to show mercy and gave the message of global brotherhood.
