Patiala, Local MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi has demanded better rail connectivity from Patiala and 13 other districts falling in the Malwa belt.
During a meeting with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Dr Gandhi is learnt to have appealed that better rail network on the Patiala-Bathinda link would also ensure an end to the power transport lobby that had “monopolised the sector”.
Dr Gandhi, who met the minister in Delhi, also submitted to Prabhu a memorandum signed by over 11,000 commuters from the Malwa belt in favour of better rail connectivity. “There are 22 districts in Punjab, of which 14 are in the Malwa belt. Ten of these do not have rail connectivity with state capital Chandigarh,” he said.
