National Games: Mahitha, Rameshwori steal the show

steelMahitha Mohan of Kerala won her third gold medal while veteran Rameshwori Devi of Manipur proved that she was not a spent force, on the penultimate day of the cycling competitions of the National Games here on Thursday.

Mahitha was unstoppable in the women’s 20km point race which she won with the maximum of 50 points to clinch her second individual gold of the meet.

The 20km point race has total of 10 sprints, one after every two km and the first four finishers win points ranging from 5, 3, 2, 1 based on their positions.

Mahitha won all the sprints to garner 50 points. V.G. Parvathy, who trailed Mahita throughout, finished with 29 points.

In the morning, Mahitha anchored Kerala to the gold in the 4km team pursuit. In the men’s category, Services took the gold.

The results:

Men: 4km team pursuit: 1. Services (4:43.385), 2. Haryana (4:49.945), 3. Maharashtra (4:51.228).

Sprint: 1. Amarjit Singh (Pun, 12.116), 2. Alan Baby (Ser, 12.216), 3. Prabhsimran Singh (Har, 12.245)

Women: 4km team pursuit: 1. Kerala (5:29.602), 2. Punjab (5:38.231), 3. Manipur (5:47.673).

Sprint: 1. Rameshwori Devi (Man, 13.505), 2. Deborah (A&N, 13.731), 3. Lidiyamol Sunny (Ker, 14.152)

20km point race: 1. Mahitha Mohan (Ker, 50 points), 2. V.G. Parvathy (Ker, 29), 3. Bismi (Ker, 10).
