Punjab police traps and nabs international heroin smuggler Harbant Singh

Chandigarh, Punjab Police has trapped and arrested international heroin smuggler Harbant Singh and effected seizure of 12 kg heroin today in district Ferozepur.

Specific information was received that top Pakistan drug lord Kalu Chaudhary @ Kalu Chairman is sending a heroin consignment across the international border in the Ferozepur sector for further transiting to the national and international market to “recipient” smuggler Harbant Singh s/o Gurmukh Singh r/o village Lakhara district Tarn Taran. A Case FIR No. 49 dated 10-02-2015 u/s 21/25 NDPS Act was registered in police station Sadar Ferozepur and an operation launched under the supervision of Sh. Hardial Singh Mann, SSP/Ferozepur.

Developing the operational leads, Punjab Police zeroed on BOP 192-5/6 in village Bareke in the Ferozepur sector from where the heroin consignment was to cross the international border by making use of the riverine nature of the border. Since the border is being guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF), liaison was established with the BSF authorities and an operation launched to seize the heroin consignment. During the search conducted in the area of BOP 192-5/6 in village Bareke, seizure of 12 kg heroin has been effected today. In a separate operation, Harbant Singh, who was to receive the heroin consignment has been arrested by the Punjab Police from Patti in district Tarn Taran, where a trap had been laid.

After controlling the local availability of drugs as its first focus and neutralising the internal distribution network, Punjab Police is now focusing on plugging supply lines from across the international border by effecting seizures of trans-border consignments sent by Pak-based drug lords which transit through the state to reach the international and national market.

Further investigations are ongoing.
