WhatsApp Channels Update: Channel Owners May Soon Get Option To Invite New Admins; All You Need To Know

WhatsApp Channels Beta Update For iOS: Meta-owned instant messaging application WhatsApp announced Channels for users in India a few months back.

And the company is regularly adding new features to improve the user experience. In the latest update on iOS, the Meta-owned app is testing the option to let channel owners invite new admins.

According to a report from WABetaInfo, the feature is undergoing testing in the beta version “23.25.10.70”. Currently rolling out for testers, you can download the update from the TestFlight app on your device to check the availability. The feature aims to allow channel owners better control and delegation powers.

In the screengrab shared in the report, the option is visible in the channel information screen. Using the “Invite Admins” tab, you can invite up to 15 contacts. The recipient must approve the request to join as an admin of the channel and gain administrative controls. These admins can edit the name, logo and description of a channel. Plus, they can edit settings and control the emojis which can be used for reactions.

These accounts can also share content within channels and manage updates via the edit or delete options. However, these admins cannot remove or add other admins or delete the channel. The bifurcation can help forge a balance between the owner and the other admins of a channel. WABetaInfo also noted that some testers might also see the voice message transcription option which was first spotted about seven months ago. The functionality is expanding to more users who install the latest version on iOS.

On a separate note, WhatsApp is experimenting with a feature to search accounts via their usernames on Android. It could reduce the reliance on the mobile number for communication and improve privacy. This feature to search accounts using usernames and the ability to configure a username will be entirely optional.
