Bajwa calls upon people to defeat regressive forces in local bodies’ elections

Chandigarh, The Punjab Congress President, Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, today called upon the people of Punjab to give a crushing defeat to the regressive forces symbolised by the Akali Dal-BJP combine in the forthcoming elections to the local bodies in the state.

In a statement, Mr Bajwa said the alliance had been hoodwinking the people in the name of development while the situation had been going from bad to worse. The Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, had been only making tall claims of taking the development to higher orbit but it was only his own business that had entered the higher orbit while the state had further plunged into misery. One fails to understand as to why he is not applying his own business to the affairs of the state to turn the tide.

He lashed out at the BJP for being a partner in non-performance and mismanagement by the senior alliance partner as the party succumbed to the pressure tactics of Mr Sukhbir Badal who had practically been running the departments that were with this party. The party failed to perform despite the fact that the local bodies department had been with the BJP all along.

The PPCC chief said the state was bankrupt and the state government lacked funds to carry on development projects and this was the reason for the worsening situation apart from totally apathy of the ruling alliance. At the same time, he had the Narendra Modi government at the centre had ditched the Parkash Singh Badal government in the matter of allocation of funds. He pointed out it was the UPA government that had been more generous towards Punjab.

He called upon the people to teach a lesson to the alliance in the local bodies’ elections as this was the right time to turn the tide.

He also referred to the alliance as opportunistic saying the BJP leaders who had been openly attacking the Akali Dal counterparts had suddenly made hasty withdrawal in view of the Delhi Assembly elections and as such, they were only befooling the people.
