Sikh organisations support fast for release of prisoners

Ludhiana- Supporting the cause for which Bapu Surat Singh is sitting on fast unto death for last 23 days, the Sikh bodies has asked the government to address the issue rather than forcibly detaining or force-feeding him at civil hospital. Representatives of different Sikh groups today met Surat Singh at civil hospital and express their solidarity.

Surat Singh is on hunger strike seeking the release of those Sikh detainees who have completed their legal jail term. He was forcibly picked up today from his residence at village Hasanpur near Ludhiana by large number of policemen and is presently kept in civil hospital. So far he has refused to take medicine and is adamant on his stand. Amongst those who met him includes Dal khalsa head H S Dhami, kanwarpal Singh, Panch Pardani leader Harpal Singh Cheema, Mohkam Singh, Gurdip Singh Bhatinda,

Today’s meeting appointed Gurdip Singh bhatinda as a coordinator and authorized him to talk with various panthic groups and concerned authorities. It has been decided that the memorandum addressed to Union and state govt. regarding the basis for hunger strike would be handed over to administration within 24 hours.

Upset over the deaf silence of the Government in redressing the prisoners issue, Surat Singh has gone on hunger strike in protest while adopting democratic means, they pointed out. They slammed the state for discriminating with prisoners incarnated (incarcerated) due to their political beliefs and sought release of all such political prisoners at earliest.
