Nifty Ends Above 20,000 For Second Straight Session, Hits New Record High

The National Stock Exchange’s benchmark index Nifty 50 index created fresh record high and closed above crucial 20,000 mark for second day in a row led by Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, Tata Steel, Axis Bank, Larsen & Toubro and Tech Mahindra.

The markets traded in a narrow range as investors were seen booking profit at the record high of 20,167.65.

The Sensex ended 52 points higher at 6,7519 and Nifty 50 index advanced 33 points to close at the record high of 20,103.

Buying was visible across board as all the 20 sector gauges compiled by the BSE ended higher led by the S&P BSE Realty index’s 1.5 per cent gain. Oil & Gas, Metal, Capital Goods, IT, Industrial and Energy indices also rose between 0.65-1.4 per cent.

Mid- and small-cap shares also witnessed buying interest as S&P BSE MidCap index rose 1.02 per cent and SmallCap index advanced 1.15 per cent.

UPL was the top Nifty gainer, the stock rose 3.86 per cent to close at Rs 631. Hindalco, Mahindra & Mahindra, ONGC, Divi’s Labs, Eicher Motors, Tata Steel and Apollo Hospitals also rose between 1.5-3.3 per cent.

On the flipside, Asian Paints, HDFC Life, Coal India, Britannia, LTI Mindtree, Tata Consumer Products, ITC and Adani Ports were among the losers.

The overall market breadth was positive as 2,466 shares ended higher while 1,202 closed lower on the BSE.
