India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of action since September 2022, hinted at a quick recovery after missing the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Bumrah hinted that he is prepared to resume bowling after a lengthy break by sharing a photo of his athletic shoes. Bumrah wrote in the caption, “Hello friend, we meet again.”
Bumrah last played for India in September 2022 and has missed out on big tournaments like the Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He was expected to make a comeback in January this year for the home series against Sri Lanka but was unfortunately ruled out after experiencing niggles in his back.
He underwent surgery in New Zealand on his lower back during the second week of April, and the procedure was successful. He is now pain-free and has started his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Bumrah is expected to be out of action for at least six weeks, but the BCCI is hopeful that he will be fit for the Asia Cup in September 2023.
While fans eagerly await his return to the pitch, Bumrah has been unable to join the Indian team since October 2022. The 29-year-old first injured his lower back in August, ruling him out of the 2022 Asia Cup. Bumrah then played two T20Is against Australia in September, injuring his lower back again. He recently missed the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) season for the Mumbai Indians (MI).
“Jasprit Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand on his lower back, which was successful and he remains pain-free. The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery and accordingly, Bumrah has commenced his rehab management at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru from Friday,” BCCI’s latest update on Bumrah, released on April 15, said.
