The temperature is expected to climb by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in most regions of the country during the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
“Gradual rise in maximum temperature by 2-4°C over most parts of the country during next 5 days,” the weather department predicted.
Thunderstorms and heavy winds are also expected across Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh during the next two days.
“Thunderstorms with gusty winds likely over Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh during next 2 days and decrease thereafter,” IMD added.
Light to moderate rainfall is also predicted over South India. “Light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall with isolated thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka during next 48 hours and over Kerala and Tamil Nadu during next 5 days. Isolated hailstorm also very likely over Telangana on 07th April,” the weather agency said.
The weather department predicted earlier this month that several parts of the nation, with the exception of the northwest and peninsular regions, would see above-normal maximum temperatures from April through June.
“A significantly higher number of heatwave days are predicted over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana,” IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mahapatra said.
Climate change raises global temperatures while increasing the frequency and severity of extreme weather occurrences.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s minimum temperature on Friday was 17.4 degrees Celsius, four degrees below the season’s normal.
