Bajwa blames BJP for increasing attacks on minorities

Chandigarh, The Punjab Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa today squarely blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Narendra Modi government for the increasing attacks on the minorities all over the country.

In a statement, he said the latest was the desecration of the church in Delhi which was part of the series of such unfortunate incidents in recent days.

He said even the US President, Mr Barack Obama had taken strong notice of the communal cleavage that was deepening in the country and had observed that even Mahatma Gandhi would have been deeply hurt over the situation. This was a direct attack on the regressive policies of the BJP whose poster boy was Mr Modi who was trying to camouflage his hidden agenda under the slogan of development. he pointed out that the presence of Mr Obama at the Republic Day parade had been projected as a big of the Prime Minister.

“The minorities are feeling insecure ever since the Modi government came into power at the centre. The members of the Sangh Parivar including the Union ministers have been issuing provocative speeches one after the other. There has been no check. Even the international community has taken strong notice of the increasing communalisation of the situation during the last few months”, he added.

He said on the one hand, Mr Narendra Modi was talking of taking the country to the higher orbit of development but at the same time, regressive forces within his own party were creating an atmosphere that was anti-development. He asserted development and communalism just could not co-exist. It was a different matter if the development was to be selective the fruits of which would not be available to all the sections of society as had happened in Gujarat.

He said even in Punjab, the Sangh Parivar had tried to raise social tension by implementing its nefarious design of conversions under the cover of the ‘Ghar Vaapsi’ programme. This was going on while the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal had been claiming that this state was the model for communal amity and harmony.

He made it clear the secular and democratic forces would not allow such tendencies to proliferate and vitiate the sensitive social fabric of the country. He called upon all the secular forces to come out to confront these dark forces of regression which were enjoying political patronage.

He said polarisation of the diverse Indian society along communal lines would prove to be too costly for which the BJP would be directly responsible.
