Lee to give Irish bowlers a helping hand

Former Australia paceman Brett Lee has agreed to a short-term deal to coach Ireland’s bowlers in the buildup to the Cricket World Cup.

Ireland coach Phil Simmons says Lee has a “special insight of Australian pitches,” and “it’s a fantastic opportunity for our bowlers to learn from a living legend.”

The 38-year-old Lee retired from all forms of cricket last month after playing in the Twenty20 final of Australia’s Big Bash. A two-time World Cup winner, Lee took 310 wickets in 76 tests, and 380 wickets in 221 ODIs.

Ireland play Randwick Petersham in a 50-over friendly on Friday before official warm-up games against Scotland on Tuesday and Bangladesh on Thursday.

The Irish are in Pool B of the World Cup.
